Botox/Dysport:
These neuromodulators are used to temporarily relax the muscles in the face that cause wrinkles. They can also be used in muscles around the head and neck to relax muscles that cause headache, neck pain, and TMJ. The most common cosmetic location is between the eyebrows. Other locations include crows’ feet, forehead lines, lip lines, and “bunny lines” on the nose. The effect of neuromodulators usually lasts 2 – 4 months depending on the location and the dosage used.
Juvederm/Restylane:
These are fillers that add volume to skin or underlying structures. They are all made of a naturally occurring substance called hyaluronic acid. They can be used to fill a wrinkle, to plump lips, contour the jawline, and to lift and reshape cheeks. There are several formulations, and the choice of filler depends on many factors which Dr. Southern will discuss when deciding what and where to inject. These fillers last from 6 months to 2 years, depending on the formulation used. Hyaluronic acid is produced in our bodies and we have a mechanism for breaking it down. These fillers are gradually broken down by the body. They also can be dissolved quickly by injecting some hyaluronidase enzyme if needed.
Sculptra:
This is a stimulator of collagen production. It is used to give a long lasting plumping of the cheeks, temples or other areas that benefit from filling. The effect can last five years or more.

Kybella:
This is deoxycholic acid, a substance that is produced naturally in the liver and released by the gallbladder for dissolving fat in the diet. When injected into fat tissue, it breaks open fat cells and carries away the fat released. It leads to a permanent reduction of the size of the fat tissue. Currently indicated only for submental fat (double chin), it can be used in other places with unwanted fat. Multiple treatments are usually needed for optimal results.
Dysport
Dysport injections are FDA-approved for treating facial lines and cervical dystonia (involuntary contractions). Like Botox, Dysport (pronounced “dis-port”) is a type A botulinum toxin, which means that it is a highly refined protein commonly used to relax muscles and inhibit sweating.
Restylane
Injectable filler composed of hyaluronic acid. A substance produced naturally by the body. It is FDA-approved for use in smoothing moderate to severe facial wrinkles and nasolabial folds. The effects of Restylane injections usually last about six months.
